Youth Speed Fundamentals: a 7-week speed development program for young athletes ages 8-12.

Why This Program Matters to Me
This program is deeply personal. As many of you know, I played university basketball at a high level—starting point guard, team MVP, led the nation in minutes played. We had elite coaching, trained twice daily, and were arguably the fittest team in the country.
But I never reached my speed goals.
Despite all the strength training, plyometrics, and sprint work, something was missing. It took me a decade of study and clinical practice to understand why: my fast-twitch muscle development was blunted by poorly-timed endurance training.
Running 5Ks on the same days as jump training. Mixing muscular endurance work with power sessions. The contradiction prevented my speed work from ever translating into real speed gains.
I created Youth Speed Fundamentals to give young athletes the framework I didn’t have.
What Most Programs Get Wrong About Speed Development
They focus on volume—more sprints, more drills, more conditioning. But speed isn’t built through volume alone. It’s built through proper mechanics, smart programming, and protecting the physiological adaptations that create explosive power.
Between ages 8-12, kids are in a critical window for fast-twitch muscle fiber development. If we fill that window with contradictory endurance training (even well-intentioned fitness work), we blunt the very adaptations we’re trying to create.
What Youth Speed Fundamentals Teaches
Youth Speed Fundamentals covers the fundamentals most programs leave out:
- Proper sprint mechanics that translate to every sport
- Jump technique and change-of-direction efficiency
- Power and agility development through an evidence-based protocol
- Smart programming that protects (rather than sabotages) fast-twitch development
Every child receives individual coaching to ensure proper form and safety. We track progress with professional-grade timing equipment at weeks 1, 3, and 6—so you see real, measurable improvements.
