Is dysbiosis why losing weight has been so difficult?
At Noble, we work diligently to provide our patients with individualized weight loss treatment plans. This process starts by diagnosing the patient accurately, including basal metabolic rate, insulin resistance, current fitness levels, and health barriers that lower the patient’s quality of life and prevent them from efficiently using stored fats as fuel.
One of the most common health barriers we tend to diagnose in patients is dysbiosis, which is essentially a dysregulation of the gut microbiome. People who experience dysbiosis typically suffer from bloating after meals, acid reflux, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain or discomfort, and may have distended bellies from excess gas production.
Dysbiosis causes gut inflammation and impairs liver function, consequently causing excess hunger, a reduction in insulin sensitivity, and hyperlipidemia. This causes the bloodstream to be filled with glucose and fatty acids from recent meals, making it difficult for the body to resort to stored fats as fuel.
You can learn more about how dysbiosis affects weight gain and overall health in this narrative review published in 2024 – https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39273662/ or in this systematic review published in 2023 – https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37690507/
